a summer time short story.

Once there was a sad girl.

She lived in a hot little town, in a hot little house, with a HOT little backyard.

Day after long summer day, she looked out her windows at baking hot, smoldering dirt. There were the occasional weeds, the random transplanted tree that never grew, a random assortment of sun-scorched children's toys, and a lot of dog piles.

This went on for FOUR, long, hot summers.

Then two years ago her darling husband started moving dirt around. He dug drains. And this sad little girl and her darling baby boy got very excited.

But then the heat set in again and the husband retreated to the coolness of the house and the sad little girl escaped as often as she could to the refreshing pool filled yards of her friends and family.

Last summer movement happened again. The darling husband moved even more dirt around. And he raked all the weeds away. And that sad little pregnant girl and her darling toddler boy jumped with joy. But as things do in life, they don't always go as expected. And instead of paying for a yard, that nervous little girl and her sweet husband spent all their money to make sure their new little darling baby would be born happy and healthy. And praise the Lord He was!

This spring dirt got moved again. And that darling husband had a darling boy to help rake away the weeds. And that sad little girl and her smiley baby boy cheered them on.

Then, ten days ago a wonderful man named Jose came over. And brought several of his friends. And they dug "sprinkles" as they like to call them. They trenched and put up forms.

A few days later, Jose came back with even more of his friends and a big huge cement truck. And that happy little girl and her darling gaggle of boys cheered!

(you'll have to take my word for it, they really were happy)

And then three days ago Jose came once again, with a big truck full of soil and this green stuff called "grass" or "sod". And the heart of that happy girl leapt.

The End.

Or rather, the beginning!
